Illuminating Our Path: Shaping the Future of Catholic Education in the Diocese of Colorado Springs

In 2022, the Diocese of Colorado Springs partnered with the Meitler Group to create a strategic growth plan for Catholic schools in our community. Through a comprehensive data study, we identified key areas for growth, shaping the strategic plan titled “Illuminating Our Path.” This plan is the result of collaboration among diocesan, parish, and school leadership, including Bishop James Golka, the Office of Catholic Schools, pastors, faculty, staff, and community representatives.

COLORADO SPRINGS. It was 1956 when Divine Redeemer Catholic School opened its doors. Colorado Springs had just been chosen as the site for the United States Air Force Academy. The popular Christmas-themed amusement park, Santa’s Workshop, had just opened in the Manitou bluffs, and Elvis Presley’s “Love Me Tender” topped the pop charts. This small town reflected the bustling optimism of post-war America and a surge in families and family size – the soon-to-be-transformative baby boom – was well underway.

Divine Redeemer School to close in May after nearly 70 years of service

COLORADO SPRINGS. For almost 70 years, Divine Redeemer Catholic School has been a beacon of faith, hope and charity for its neighborhood, its parish and the greater Colorado Springs community. When the school opened in 1956, the parish was answering the call to minister to the many young families who lived in the Divine Redeemer community. The parish sacrificed to provide a faithfully Catholic and academically challenging education to their children.

I can say with some authority that attending Our Lady of Walsingham Academy is a lot of work. A few years ago, that would have been a complaint. But now, as I pursue the studies of my senior year, I’m actually grateful.

In the origin story of most ministries, inspiration precedes the capital requirements.  Someone heeds the call to initiate a food pantry, or a program for unwed mothers, or a retreat center for teens, and then they go looking for magnanimous donors willing to provide financial support.
