Lay Carmelite communities gather for Day of Recollection

COLORADO SPRINGS. On Oct. 7, members representing three Colorado Lay Carmelite communities observed a day of recollection at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Boulder.  
The day began with the celebration of Mass, at which four members of St. John the Baptist Lay Carmelite Community made their temporary professions (the second of three stages in the six-year formation process of becoming a Lay Carmelite).

In March of this year, I approached Father Kyle Ingels, Director of Vocations for the Diocese of Colorado Springs and Director of Campus Ministry at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS), and offered my services to help organize a discernment retreat for the single men and boys of the diocese.  Father Ingels was very receptive and, during a series of planning meetings, we decided to hold the retreat on July 22 at the St. John Henry Newman Center located near UCCS.

New cohort begins five-year permanent diaconate formation program

COLORADO SPRINGS. The Office of Permanent Diaconate for the Diocese of Colorado Springs announced that 19 men have been accepted into the formation program for the permanent diaconate. The new cohort began their formation in August, with a target ordination date of May 2028.

Parents of men and boys who are discerning the priesthood or who would like to learn more about the discernment process, application process and seminary life are invited to attend a Parent’s Night at the St. John Henry Newman Center, located at 4785 Stanton Rd., near the UCCS campus on Oct. 25 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. No RSVP is required.  For more information, send an email to mlehnertz@icloud.com.

Father Jarrod Waugh seeks to preserve spiritual heritage of Sacred Heart

COLORADO SPRINGS. When Jarrod Waugh first offered his life to God in prayer, God said no. “It’s kind of hard to explain,” said Father Waugh, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Colorado Springs. “But nearing the end of high school, I perceived that negative signal very clearly.  God did not want me to enter the seminary at that time.”
