Bishop Golka’s statement on the death of Pope Francis
By Bishop James R. Golka
COLORADO SPRINGS. Bishop James Golka issued the following statement in response to the death of Pope Francis:
“I was saddened to learn of the death of Pope Francis early this morning. I had the opportunity to visit with him on several occasions in Rome and always enjoyed his warmth, sense of humor and deep faith. Most importantly, however, he was the Vicar of Christ for more than a decade, carrying on despite various health problems and physical limitations. He demonstrated great courage in confronting the challenges faced by the Catholic Church, always keeping at the forefront of his fatherly concern those most affected by war, poverty and exploitation. I ask all the faithful to pray for his eternal rest and for the universal Church during this time of transition.”
