Cathedral parishioners named ‘Longest Married Couple’ in Colorado

COLORADO SPRINGS. Bill and Ruth Carew of St. Mary’s Cathedral were named the Worldwide Marriage Encounter (WWME) Longest Married Couple in Colorado and were honored after the cathedral’s 4 p.m. Mass on Jan. 25. Tom and Molly Johnson, co-leaders of WWME in Colorado, presented a certificate and flowers to the couple. ![](/Portals/0/2025-01-25%20-%20Carews%20and%20Johnsons%20%232.jpg)
The Carews were married June 26, 1954, in Gary, Indiana. They were nominated by Christina Orff Brims.
Each year, WWME accepts nominations for the Longest Married Couple in every state in honor of World Marriage Day on Feb. 9.
Worldwide Marriage Encounter was founded by Father Gabriel Calvo in Spain in 1952. The organization expanded to North and South America during the 1960s and is now present in 94 countries.
