COLORADO SPRINGS. Mary Patricia “Pat” McMahon died May 29 at age 91 at Mount St. Francis Nursing Center.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 8 at Holy Apostles Parish. Burial followed at Pikes Peak National Cemetery.
She was born March 16, 1932, in Chicago, the first of seven children born to John and Marguerite Bordes.
She graduated from Immaculata High School and DePaul University in Chicago, earning a degree in education.
After college, she began teaching elementary school in the Chicago area and eventually enrolled in a government program that allowed her to teach in Japan and France. It was during that time she met her husband, John McMahon, an Air Force pilot. The couple had three children: Sheila, James, and Sean.
After a military transfer to Colorado Springs in 1971, Pat gave up teaching to care for her children. She later went on to earn her master’s degree at Colorado College and returned to education at Divine Redeemer School, where she spent many years teaching second grade.
She is survived by her husband John; children Sheila Austin, Jim (Anne), and Sean (Tracy); grandchildren Kae, Jack, Quinn, Ryan, Bee, Sam and Drew; and sisters Joan Ambrogi, Barbara Meyer, Carol Korbakis and Nancy Trimble.
