COLORADO SPRINGS. Bishop James Golka presented two awards to longtime pro-life advocates during the annual Bishop’s Respect Life Round-up on Sept. 5 at Flying W Ranch.
The Respect Life Volunteer of the Year Award is given in honor of a person’s significant contribution in service to the culture of life. Recipients of this award work humbly, without fanfare and seeking no recognition. This year’s award was presented to Rhonda Miller, who has been instrumental in the establishing Project Rachel, a ministry for post-abortive men and women. “Her work in this ministry for more than 20 years has helped bring hope and healing to countless women and men who have suffered in the wake of abortion,” Bishop Golka said.
The Father Bill Carmody Defender of Life Award is a Lifetime Achievement award given to people who have dedicated their lives to protecting and defending life from conception to natural death. This year’s award was given to Deacon Jim and Bonnie Bachta.
“Since his ordination as a deacon in 2011, this couple has provided leadership and direction to the Respect Life Apostolate,” Bishop Golka said. “They are instrumental in the success of the weekly Respect Life Mass in the diocese, and in the last year they established a monthly pro-life rosary walk.”
