Sister Georgiana Franzluebbers dies at age 91

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Sept. 8 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, followed by burial in the Mount St. Francis Cemetery.

Sister Georgiana was born April 8, 1931, in Monterey, Nebraska. She was one of 10 children born to George and Frances Franzleubbers. As a child, she was taught by the Sisters of St. Francis in a rural two-room school in Monterey, which planted the seeds for her vocation to the order. “At the age of 16, I left my loving family, the farm, and all that was near and dear to me to begin a new life . . . no longer would I be a farmer’s daughter in Nebraska but a daughter of God, my Father, in Colorado,” she wrote when recounting her vocation story.

She entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration on Aug. 12, 1949, and professed perpetual vows on Aug. 12, 1956.

Sister Georgiana earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Albuquerque and a master’s degree in education from Creighton University.

She taught for 39 years in Colorado, Nebraska, and New Mexico. In 1995, she moved to Mount St. Francis as coordinator at St. Clare Convent.

Sister Georgiana is survived by three sisters, Annie, Rosie, and Sister Frances.
