Catholic Schools Week will be observed Jan. 28-Feb. 3

COLORADO SPRINGS. Catholic Schools Week will be observed Jan. 28 - Feb. 3. Following is a listing of the various activities planned by schools in the diocese for Catholic Schools Week 2024. 

Ave Maria Catholic School

Corpus Christi Catholic Academy

COLORADO SPRINGS. During Catholic Schools Week, students at Corpus Christi Catholic Academy will be collecting money and supplies for Marian House. On Jan. 29 following the 7:45 a.m. Mass, there will be an information session with homeschooling families regarding a possible partnership for the 2024-25 academic year. Jan. 30 is School Spirit Day. Teachers will serve students snacks while they participate in games. On Jan. 31, students will participate in a eucharistic procession for the Feast of St. John Bosco after morning Mass. There will be an art gallery and open house at 6:15 p.m. A staff luncheon will take place Feb. 1. On Feb. 2, Bishop James Golka will celebrate Mass at 7:45 a.m. On Feb. 3, there will be a family Italian dinner hosted by the Home and School Association following the 5 p.m. Mass. 

Divine Redeemer Catholic School

COLORADO SPRINGS. Divine Redeemer School will kick off its celebration of Catholic Schools Week by having students sponsor the 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Masses on Jan. 28, followed by an eighth-grade breakfast fundraiser after each Mass. Students will also pass out thank-you cards at all Masses. On Jan. 29, students will have a pajama day and there will be an opportunity to mingle with the principal at 6 p.m. On Jan. 30, students will have a free dress day. On Jan. 31, students will dress as their favorite U.S. state. On Feb. 1, students willl dress in red, white and blue. On Feb. 2, there will be a symposium showcasing all students from 8 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Elementary classes will present projects in the gym from 8-9 a.m. Middle school classes will present their bridge projects in the gym from 9-11 a.m. At 1:30 p.m., the school will gather in the gym for a hungry hippo contest, ending with a dodgeball competition featuring eighth-graders versus staff and alumni. 

Holy Apostles Preschool

COLORADO SPRINGS. Holy Apostles Preschool will begin their celebration of Catholic Schools Week with a visit from Bishop James Golka on Jan. 26 at 9:30 a.m. There will be an open house at the preschool on Jan. 28 from 10-11 a.m. On Jan. 29 and 30, students will have a pajama day and will present thank-you cards to parents. On Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, students will celebrate USA Day and dress in red, white and blue. They will listen to patriotic music and have a USA Parade. On Feb. 2, students will wear school colors and there will be a celebration for staff. 

Pax Christi Catholic Preschool

LONE TREE. Pax Christi Preschool in Lone Tree will begin Catholic Schools week by celebrating the school’s tenth anniversary with doughnuts after the 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Masses. There will also be an open house after each Mass. On Jan. 29, the school will conduct a food drive for the St. Elizabeth’s Food Pantry; donations will be accepted all week. On Jan. 30, students will receive virtuous gifts. On Jan. 31, members of the military will visit the school. On Feb. 1, police and fire department personnel will visit the school and speak to students. On Feb. 2, staff will be provided with breakfast and lunch. 

St. Gabriel Classical Academy

COLORADO SPRINGS. St. Gabriel Classical Academy will begin its celebration of Catholic Schools Week by having students sing at the 10 a.m. Mass on Jan. 28. After Mass, the school will serve doughnuts and have information tables set up. On Jan. 29, the school will pray the rosary for our country and world peace. On Jan. 30, students will write letters to seminarians, and priests and religious sisters will visit classrooms and speak to students about vocations. On Jan. 31, students will participate in a “Mystery Meet,” where classes will met up with students at their grade level from a Catholic school in another state to complete a learning activity. On Feb. 1, Bishop James Golka will celebrate Mass at St. Gabriel at 8 a.m. Buddy Classes will do a community service project together. 

St. Paul Catholic School

COLORADO SPRINGS. St. Paul School will begin its celebration of Catholic Schools Week with an open house on Jan. 28 from 9-10 a.m., with coffee and doughnuts served in the cafeteria. On Jan. 29, a gift-card drive to benefit Mater Filius maternity home will begin. Families will speak about keeping the faith alive in their homes. On Jan. 30, a faculty and staff appreciation lunch will take place, followed by a game of “Sacramental Jeopardy” and a presentation on the sacraments by Father Sijo George, OSB. On Jan. 31, there will be guided eucharistic adoration following Mass. On Feb. 1, students in grades 5-8 will participate in a Vocations Panel from 8:45-9:45 a.m. On Feb. 2, students will dress in western wear and have an assembly at 8:45 a.m. to present gifts to altar servers and awards for the gift card drive. 

St. Peter Catholic School

MONUMENT. St. Peter School in Monument will hold an open house on Jan. 28 from noon-1 p.m. On Jan. 29, there will be a eucharistic procession through the school. On Jan. 30, Bishop James Golka will celebrate Mass at 8:15 a.m. On Jan. 31, seventh-grade students will perform a skit about St. John Bosco, followed by a lip-sync contest. Students will wear red, white and blue and write thank-you letters to first responders and service members. On Feb. 1, career presentations will take place from 8:30-9:30 a.m. On Feb. 2, a volleyball game featuring eight-graders versus teachers will be held in the gym at 10:30 a.m.
